Sharon has been with the City of Weatherford since October 1985 starting as the city's Pretreatment Coordinator. She has held the positions of City Sanitarian, Superintendent of Treatment, Department Manager for Environmental Services and Treatment, and Assistant Director of Utilities before being appointed as Deputy Director of Utilities in 2004. Sharon Hayes was appointed as the city's Director of Utilities on July 7, 2008 became the Assistant City Manager-Utilities on April 9, 2009 and the City Manager on May 1, 2015.
Hayes holds a Bachelor degree in Science from Tarleton State University, a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science from Texas Christian University and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of North Texas.
Sharon has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience operating, managing and leading the city's utility systems and extensive and intimate knowledge of our utility infrastructure and operations.
Sharon is a member of the International City Managers Association, Texas City Managers Association and serves on the Texas Public Power Association board of directors. She is past president of the North Central Texas Chapter of the Texas Section of American Water Works as well as a past president of the Texas Association of Clean Water Agencies. She is a member of the American Water Works Association, the Water Environment Federation, the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, and the Texas Water Utilities Association. Hayes has also published work in professional trade publications.
