ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT

Our Electric Department is staffed and capable of responding to any service disruption regardless of the time of day. This should provide comfort to our residents and businesses that they will have reliable and dependable electric service during this event. Both our Water and Electric Departments will remain at full staff, and upon speaking with Representative Phil King, we will be able to seek extra staffing assistance, as a contingency plan, if needed.

FINANCE DEPARTMENT

Finance Department is working on financial flexibility plans and solidifying contingency plans for utility billing.
  • The Weatherford Municipal Utility Board approved no assessing of late penalties or disconnects of utility services for 90 days from the date of their meeting on Thursday, March 26.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

Our Fire Department has seen no changes in our response time or staffing. Our firefighters respond to medical calls and are often the first on the scene to provide aid. We have operational awareness from our past training and historical events. We have a back-up system in place and the ability to take extra precautionary measures to deal with any potential staffing issues. This includes assistance from the state in keeping our fire staff at full capacity. We are taking extra precautions on all of our calls just in case. Effective early the week of March 27th we have suspended all non-essential fire services, such as station tours, fire inspections, public relations events, and public appearances. This in no way changes our emergency response tactics and services operations.

POLICE DEPARTMENT

Weatherford’s Police Department staffing is still at full capacity, while also having the contingency plan of state assistance if needed. As a precautionary measure, the Weatherford Police Department has closed the station to the public, suspended the ride-along program and halted public fingerprinting. We have asked that all volunteers stay at home for the time being. Early the week of March 27th we enacted an officer-callback response to all non-emergency situations. We are asking that the public allow our officers to save the in-person response to only emergencies.
  • Operation Strong Community Pantry - If you or someone you know needs food, please come by. If you live within the city limits of Weatherford, need food, and can’t get out, please call us at 817-598-4300 and we will do our best to help! The Community Pantry has already served lots of people and for that we are super proud, but we need to replenish our stock. We welcome donations of non-perishable items too – cereal, bread, crackers, canned meats, canned veggies & fruit, pasta & pasta sauce, juice, soups, etc. With all the kiddos home from school, we’re certain families will need some snacks to get through the day – apples, oranges, cookies, chips, etc. – We appreciate any and all donations!

WATER DEPARTMENT

Our Water Department is and will continue to remain unaffected, we will not close this function at any time. Our water treatment plant is designed to purify and disinfect our water free of pathogens, toxins, and other contaminants. We continuously run water quality checks to monitor water quality and verify disinfection levels. There is no need to stock up on water supplies, as our water source is safe and reliable.

WEATHERFORD PARKER COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

To prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter (WPCAS) will be closed to the public March 19. We will be altering operations with regards to intake at the shelter, in the community and adoption of animals to patrons. During this time, we will be deep cleaning and disinfecting our shelter as well as making plans to provide the best service we can during these changing times. We will keep all of our supporters and community updated with the latest information regarding changes to our operations.

Adoptions, intake from the public, and visitation to the shelter will be suspended, including volunteering and community service. WPCAS will not be taking in any animals from the public that are brought to the facility. WPCAS is also suspending any trapping efforts at this time, until further notice. This includes trapping of cats and/or wildlife.

Current services will include:
     • Emergency animal control related issues.
     • Phone and email service.

The community can facilitate getting lost animals back to their owner by taking these steps to reunite them with their family:
     • Submit a Lost or Found Animal Report by sending an email to animals@weatherfordtx.gov including a picture of the pet, where the pet was found, and contact information.
     • Take the animal to any a veterinarian, emergency animal hospital or pet store to have the pet scanned for a microchip.
     • Post the pet as found on sites like Nextdoor, Craigslist and Weatherford social media pages.
     • Hang flyers where the pet was found, as most pets are found less than 1,000 feet from their home.
     • Animal Control Officers (ACO) will still be responding to calls of service in the community based on priority level response, which consist of rabies quarantine/bite investigation calls, and aggressive and/or injured animal calls.

If a resident has lost their pet and believes the animal is at WPCAS, they may call 817-598-4111 or email animals@weatherfordtx.gov to begin the process of reclaiming their pet. WPCAS will not be facilitating adoptions during this closure, however, WPCAS will still be working with rescue organizations to place tags on our animals. Please ensure you follow our rescue protocols to place any tags. You can find our rescue protocols at: http://www.weatherfordtx.gov/3066/Rescue-Partners.
