Citizen's Fire Academy


What is the Citizen's Fire Academy?

The three month academy will introduce citizens to the fire service and provide educational opportunities about the functions of the Weatherford Fire Department. Class topics will address fire behavior and science, portable fire extinguishers, personal protective equipment and selfcontained breathing apparatus, search drills,  the incident management system, ropes andknots, ladder drills, fire hose and nozzles, fire prevention and investigation, EMS and CPR andthe fire department physical ability test.

Who can join Citizen's Fire Academy?

Number of students and eligibility

The class is limited to 20 students. Eligibility requirements:
  • Be a citizen of Weatherford
  • Be at least 18 years of age or older (under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)

Meeting dates and times

The 3rd CFA will begin on February 9, 2016 at 7pm.

  • Introduction to the Fire Service - February 9th at 7pm
  • History - February 16th at 7pm
  • Portable Fire Extinguishers  - February 23rd at 7pm
  • PPE and SCBA - March 2nd at 7pm
  • Incident Management System - March 9th at 7pm
  • Search Drills - March 23rd at 7pm
  • Fire Prevention and Investigation  - March 30th at 7pm
  • Ropes and Knots, Ladder Drills, Fire Hose and Nozzles - April 8th at 8am
  • Extraction - April 22nd at 8am
  • EMS and CPR - April 29th at 8am
  • WFD's Physical Ability Test - May 6th at 8am
  • Graduation - May 11th at 7pm
